Why aren't photos from apps saving to my gallery?

Photos from apps such as Facebook, Snapchat and Tumblr stopped saving to my Android's gallery a few weeks ago. However, if I take a picture from the camera or a screenshot, those photos still save perfectly fine. The strange thing is that the apps say the photos have been saved, but none of them appear in the gallery. I've tried force closing the apps, the gallery, and restarting my phone. What next?
My phone is a Samsung Galaxy Avant.

Welcome to Android Central! Use a file manager app and look for those photos in the directories--they're most likely in separate directories from the Camera's main /DCIM/Camera directory. Check to make sure there aren't any ".nomedia" files in the directories where your missing photos are located--this file instructs the system's Media Scanner to ignore that directory when looking for new media to put in the Gallery and Music databases.
