I'd like to spend the least possible for a good phone, and will be rooting and flashing to stock if possible.
    1. Lenovo P90(K80)
    $230
    2. One Touch Idol 3
    $250
    3. Oneplus 2
$330 (Assuming I can get an invite and for it to get in stock, how hard is it to get an invite btw?)
    4. Meizu MX5
    $330
    5. Lenovo K3 Note
    $160
    6. Moto X Pure Edition
    $400
    7. Moto X Play
    $? TBA?
    Xiaomi Redmi Note 2
    $180

Get the Idol 3 if you want a very good unlocked phone for under $300. I've had the I3 for about a month and I like it enough to continue using it as my daily driver. The I3 has very bright high quality screen, excellent front facing speakers, good battery life (6+ hrs SOT), solid build quality and runs near stock Android. It's also very easy to root and use recently updated Xposed to customize the UI and improve performance.

    Welcome to Android Central!

I would go with the Moto X Pure Edition. It is the best bang for your buck and it will work on ANY carrier. It's also going to get updates before all the phones on this list. It's also pretty much pure Android.
