Why can't I log into my google account on my new tablet?

[AC Question]

I just purchased a galaxy pro 8.4 refurb. Received in the mail today and upon turning it on and attemping to set it up, I can't get past the "Signing in, this can take a few minutes" screen. I've tried about everything I know. Factory reset a couple times. Multiple wifi networks, rebooting the tablet. I'm at a loss.
Why is my tablet getting hung up here and can I fix it or just return it?
