    Welcome to Android Central. Have you tried taking it back out and reinstalling it? Also, are you sure it was inserted facing the correct way? If so and it's not working, it may have been damaged during the removal and needs to be replaced, or the SIM slot itself may have been damaged.

    You may need to visit your carrier and have them issue a new one to you.

    It sounds like your phone is on a GSM/LTE carrier and not Verizon or Sprint so I do run into this on my ZenFone 2 since its not a AT&T branded carrier phone. Typically I go into settings and cellular connections and have it auto select the carrier also sometimes a soft reset does the trick as well.
