I began the encryption process on my Galaxy S5 (SM-G900V) running 5.0, and it showed an Android encryption icon, the the screen went black and the LED pulsed blue. 4 hours later this is still happening. No progress bar or anything, just black. What should I do? I'm obviously going to leave it overnight but if it still is stuck in the morning should I remove the battery and reboot, or plug into a computer... and will I keep my files? I have some backups but I don't know if I have it all and need it urgently for Monday. Also what do I do if the phone remains black after a reboot? How does safe mode work and what kind of reset would be appropriate? Thanks a million for any detailed answers!

Welcome to Android Central! I'd try pressing and holding the Power button for about 10 seconds to see if it powers on or powers off. Hard to say what will happen to your data, but you probably don't have any other choice.
