How do I convert an SME file to a readable text?

I transferred text messages from Samsung using Kies3 to my PC (Windows 7).

If you're talking about backing up SMS messages, SMS to Text will store them as straight text - which can't be used for a backup, because some of the data is missing. SMS Backup & Restore will back them up as xml files, which CAN be used as backups, and once you learn to ignore the xml headers, can be read as text in any text editor (even Notepad).
