How to Connect S5 to HDTV?

Hello,
My Friend has an S5 and for the last three days whenever she plugs in her mhl Samsung adapter it turns her phone off now before these three days it was woking now it just keeps turning her phone off. She brought a new hdmi cord even took the Samsung adapter back and got a new one and its still doing the same thing, so what should she do?

Evidently there's something wrong in the phone - which is going to be expensive to repair. Just opening the phone is more expensive than the cheaper alternative, which is Chromecast mirroring. The app will run on an S5, the device is $25-$30, and there are no wires to trip over.
