Access hard drive when screen is disconnected

[AC Question]

My Samsung Galaxy Appeal (dont let the name fool you, its an old slider phone) has recently become partially disconnected from its screen. The wire leading from the base to the screen (looks like a flat sheet of plastic) split about halfway across resulting in the screen failing to respond or show any image. This is due solely to over use of the slider bending the wire thousands of times over the past 4 or so years. If anyone knows a way for my PC to gain access to the hard drive of the phone without being able to select "connect usb" (as I cannot select anything at all) I would be extremely grateful. I have many photos and files from the past several years that exist solely on that hard drive (bad planning on my part but I usually learn things the hard way).
