e.g. If i say "ok google, play some music" it will play a random song, but if i say "ok google, next song" or "ok google, skip this song" then it will simply google the works next song or skip this song. Is there a way to force it to only interact with the google music app?

Welcome to the forums. Those commands should be what to use. Have you tried 'play next song'?

I have tried "ok google, play next song" instead of playing the next song in the play list it will instead search for any songs called "next" and play that instead :/

Not sure what to suggest other than to report that as feedback to Google.
