How do you sync your email on a Android S4?

The AT&T rep is unable to sync one of our employees email to his Android S4. I have googled this and am trying to find the answer, can you help? He should be calling back soon after he tries to reset the cell phone.

Make sure it's an IMAP account. Set the update time to Never. The phone will receive the email seconds after the email server does.
