My friend dropped my Samsung S5 while it was sat near a hot tub, though it didn't get in the water, it dropped out 4 feet to the floor. The bottom of the phonescreen is smashed and all pixellated, I don't know how else to describe it. It turns on okay, the picture is good minus the bottom quarter of the screen, though once it is on, I can't get the screen to show up again as I'm guessing the home & lock buttons aren't working. The touchscreen is also not working. I've put it in rice just in case it got damaged by the steam of the hot tub but I'm not sure what else to do. Will I have to pay to get it repaired?

Welcome to Android Central! Bad luck. Yes, hopefully your friend will have to pay to get it repaired. That kind of damage won't be covered by warranty, unfortunately. I assume you didn't have any insurance on the phone through your carrier?
