Best Android Phone for Rooting?

I'll be due for an upgrade soon after my contract runs out with Verizon. I don't want to lose my "grandfathered" Unlimited data plan and free tethering. Should I stay with Verizon? Is there a better plan/network out there? What is the best Android Phone for rooting, customizing ROM? I currently have a well performing rooted, Verizon Galaxy S4. Looking for a larger screen, fast processor, SD Card slot, changeable Battery.

Nexus devices are the best phones to use and root, mod, install custom anything on. Since you are on Verizon the Nexus 6 is available, and is currently being offered at $350 Via Amazon if you are interested. The latest Nexus devices are expected to be announced later this month with possibly release dates soon after; however, it's not yet known if the new devices can be activated on Verizon's network.
