I have a Kitkat android phone. It has 2gb rom and 16 gb ram, but the latter seems quite useless since most apps won't install on it or move to it. I effectively have 2gb (even less due to system resources) for apps - which is way too little.

I understand this has something to do specifically with Kitkat and it's writing permissions or something. I tried some fixes on the internet but none of that seemed to help. ANYWAY - I am not asking how to fix this nor how this issue works.

My only question is that I read somewhere that this issue is gone in later versions of Android. Can anyone confirm this, and if so from which version onwards? Will that version allow me to utilize ALL my phone storage for apps?

    Thanks!

The issue was with SD cards and how SD cards where handled by the Android OS in KitKat. Take a look at this blog post: KitKat and SD cards — what's fixed, what's broken and what's misunderstood | Android Central
