Why won't my phone brightness go up but you can barely see anything on my phone?

My Galaxy s3 suddenly brightness went down and you can't see nothing at all I had accidently dropped my phone in water but it was working perfectly fine after that but I the light still shows my notification but there is no way you can see anything if you were in a pitch dark room you can barely even see the screen.. any help please???
