Why do I see only dots when I try to write with a pen on my Samsung Galaxy s5 phone?

I have SNote installed...but I have no luck using a regular pen point on my phone...I see only "dots".....am I doing something wrong?? Thanks for any help you can provide

Welcome to Android Central! A stylus has to have conductive rubber at the tip. You can't just use a regular pen nib (and I would strongly recommend against it, since it could scratch the glass).
