600 photos take up how much space?

A

AC Question

Galaxy s5. I've turned off Picasa and google+ auto sync, cleared caches, etc etc. Yet when I check storage space it says I have over 6 gb of photos. Granted, I have over 600 photos on my phone. But still.... 6GB? Is there something I'm missing, or are my photos really using up 1GB for every 100 pics? That seems excessive for cell phone photos.... 😊

Welcome to Android Central! What resolution are most of the photos, and how big is each photo file on average? Obviously, if all of the photos are very high res, with lots of detail, each photo could be 5-7 MB in size (or more), so that could take up 3-5 GB of space. On top of that, the thumbnails that the system will always create (for photos, album art, website images, etc.) can build up, commonly exceeding 1 GB in size. Use a file manager app and go to the /DCIM/.thumbnails directory, and see how big it is. You may have to set the file manager to show hidden files/folders first.
