How do I know if apps are running on samsung centura and how do I turn them off if they are running?

I know this is a low budget phone with little storage so I have not intentionally loaded any apps. I use the phone very little and have it for emergencies mainly. It is a tracphone that I have used about 400 minutes since Janurary 2015 and battery dies after only 5 to 6 hours.
