Verizon walked me thru it and had me do the usual settings/sound & notification and said select default notification ringtone. Since I did, all emails play the same song.

Do you want different sounds for emails or for text messages?

In Gmail, tap the "hamburger menu" (the 3-bar menu at the top left), then scroll to settings. Within settings, tap the email address you want to modify the notification for the tap "Inbox sound & vibrate" then tap sound and select your desired sound from the list of choices. You can repeat for each different email address within Gmail to have different sounds for each.

To change text message notifications will depend on the text app you're using. If you're using Hangouts, tap the same menu, go to settings, tap SMS then in the Notifications section, select your preferred sound.
