I mistakenly upgraded my phone to Android 5.0 without doing the research. I hate it, my phone is significantly slower, the colors are awful, the text function is terrible, the close cover feature stopped working, etc. I tried to do a back-up before I did it but it didnt work. Is there any way to get back to 4.0?

Only way is to root the phone and find a ROM. If you don't have that know-how, you need to learn to live with the new version. Try a system cache partition clear - it often helps clean up the system memory clutter that can accompany a new OS installation. That won't help you with the colrs and graphics, though. Price of progress, I'm afraid.
