I just received my Galaxy S6 Active. It seems like the batter life is noticeably shorter than my S5. I suspect that applications are running in the background. Is there a way to close all or most of the applications by programming one of the buttons on the S6?

Welcome to Android Central! I wouldn't indiscriminately close apps, because the system will just reopen them--that's how Android works. It wants to keep RAM relatively full of open apps.

It would be more useful to try to determine if any particular app or service is using excessive battery. Use something like GSam Battery Monitor to get a better idea.

There are other reasons for battery drain as well. Charge up to 100%, then let it drain to 20-30% with normal usage, without charging in between. Then show us:

    1. The main Settings>Battery screen.
    2. The fullscreen battery graph screen (which shows Awake time and Cell Signal Strength).
    3. The Screen category (to see total Screen On time).
    4. The Cell Standby category, if present (to see Time Without Signal).
