Why is my tethered internet slower than my friend's using same method?

I dont have internet at my house i just recently moved into so i decided to tether my phone since a friend of mine is doing it. We have the same carrier, sprint, and we both are using pdanet. The only difference is im using a signal booster so i can even use my phone in the first place. I now have a better signal than my friend and everything on my phone works great and yet when i tether, my connection is far slower than his. I called the booster company and they said it couldnt be the booster, so now what?

Is your friend getting faster speed at his house or at yours?

His. He lives on a hill and i live in a valley hence the need for a booster
