Why can't I listen to music on my HTC in my car?

I have an HTC Desire 816. I can listen to music on the HTC, using headphones, or the speakers in the phone, but not in the car. I-phone and USB cable works. But not HTC phone and USB cable. So I bought an AUX cable yesterday, following the instructions on this page, but it still doesn't work. Is there some particular setting on the phone that is required? Please help

Welcome to Android Central! I assume your car stereo can't stream audio via Bluetooth, correct?

Most Android phones can't connect via USB to a car stereo to play music. The iPhone could probably because car stereo manufacturers historically have paid more attention to iPhones (although that has been changing lately).

When using the Aux cable, make sure the volume on the phone is turned up all the way. You've set the stereo input to Aux In, right?
