I like to move most of my apps from the internal storage of my Samsung tablet to my SD card using the application manager.
However, I noticed that each time a moved application needs updating, the update installs on the internal memory by default and the whole
moving job has to be done again. How can I prevent this from happening and force the update to install on the card without having to root the device . Thanks

Welcome to Android Central! I don't believe that's possible. Apps need to download and install to Internal Storage first, after which the user can move them to SD. So it stands to reason that the same applies to updates.
