    I took a photo, put phone away, and next time I pulled it out the glass was shattered.

    Wow, what happened between the photo an putting it away. A couple options, if you have carrier insurance you can get it replaced, you can contact Samsung for them to repair it (at cost) or you can order the parts and hit up iFixIt.com https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung...lacement/26914 and learn how to repair the display yourself.

    If the phone has not been subjected to any impacts, the glass may possibly have shattered due to a flaw in it. Contact the Samsung support site for advice.
