Why has my phone twice called numbers that are not in my contact list on its own?

I went back to my desk at work and I had a missed call. The area code was the same so I called it back and the guy said I had called him and he had called me back! The only thing is, my phone was not in my pocket but rather on my desk, and it was locked. Furthermore, the number dialed is not on my contact list and I have zero call history with this number. This is the second time this has happened, the first time the recipient wasn't as nice.

This is happening all the time. Your number is being used by call centers. I've actually seen peoples own numbers calling themselves.
