Problem changing Note 3 charger port

A

AC Question

I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Sm-n900A. Recently the charger port stopped working and I needed to replace it. I ordered a new port for a N900a. When I went to remove the old port it said N900P on it and looks slightly different then the new N900a port. I tried installing the N900a port but am having some compatibility issues-it won't charge and shuts off after non use for a few minutes (The phone will work when turned on). I was wondering if I just have a bad n900a port or if I need a n900p port to replace what the old one even though it is a N900A model phone? ATT is my carrier.
Are the n900a and n900p charger ports interchangeable? Will a reset of the phone fix this problem? Any insight you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
