Why does my phone not ring when I call someone? I can't hear them but they can hear me.

The first time it happened I was told to take the battery out and put it back in. This has happened several times in the last 6 months. No problems the first 18 months of owning the phone. This last time I took the battery out the connector pins got bent. This has been fixed but is it going to continue to happen? How can I prevent these problems. I have an LG Enact. I don't want to get stuck needing to use my phone in an emergency and discover I have to take the battery out to get help.
