When an update is available for any app not installed via Google Play, my tablet doesn't let me install it for some amount of time, usually a few days but sometimes more than a week.

The update downloads and I am presented with the "Cancel" and "Install" buttons but tapping install does nothing. The "Cancel" button works and I can view the app permissions within the same pop-up, etc., so it seems like the update is explicitly blocked. When I try again some numbers of days later the "Install" button works and the update applies.

Is there any way to get round this so that updates can be applied when they are first available?

A way around it? Install the app from Google Play in the first place? I am assuming that the update is showing in the Play Store, am I wrong?

The only reason I can see for side-loading an app that is available through the Play Store is that it's a purchased app and it was sourced from an APK mirror for free.
