Nexus (Android 6.0) connected to PC but cannot access any files

Hey, I just updated my nexus with the latests android update. I tried to upload some music but when i look on my computer there is a folder indicating that the phone is connected but it is completely blank. I haven't had any connection problems up until this update, and Ive had the phone for a couple years now.
Any suggestions?

After you have connected the phone and you can see the icon on the pc, swipe down from the upper edge of the display and you will get a menu for usb connections. Default is Charging only. Change to Transfer files (MTP) and you will be able to transfer files back and forth.
