Unable to access files on Nexus 9 using Marshmallow

I have just updated to Marshmallow on my Nexus 9 tablet. Since the upgrade I am unable to access files on the tablet. I deleted files to make room before the installation. The cable / computer works on my Nexus 7 to see files on the table. The Settings ->Storage -> Menu in the Upper R Corner -> USB Computer Connection is MTP selected? fix won't work as the menu does not have that option. Is there anything that I can try to fix this?
