I have a Droid Maxx and it has become very slow. Clearing the cache has not made it any faster. Would a factory reset help? Can I do a factory reset at home and still have the phone work or do I need to take it to the store and have them reactivate the phone?

Just be sure you've backed up everything (contacts, calendar, app data, etc.) and go to Settings-Backup & Reset and follow the menus.

However, before you do this, try rebooting into recovery mode and clear the cache partition. You need to google the procedure for your specific phone model. But it's simple and you won't lose your data. This often helps.

Finally, take a careful look at your running apps to see if you've got a memory hog that could be uninstalled.
