Why is it when I open Google Play random things start downloading?

Hey, I have a Galaxy S3, I've had it since about June. I went to Google Play today, and our of know where 5-7 things popped up on my notification bar saying they were downloading. They aren't apps, they were random numbers and letters. When I had gone to app info and forced a stop and to disable it, Google Play stopped working. Any help?

Welcome to Android Central! Does this only happen when you open the Play Store?

Try going to the App Manager, select Google Play Store, and Clear Cache/Clear Data, then Force Stop. Do the same for Download Manager. Now open Play Store again, and see if it still happens.
