Google services draining my battery (Galaxy Grand Prime)

Yesterday I noticed that my battery life is constantly decreasing even though my phone is not in use and is locked. I checked on settings to see what's taking up all my battery life then found out that google play services was using 44% of my battery. How do I fix this?

The first thing to try is the simplest....a Power Off and Restart.
If no go, get back to us for further suggestions.

yesterday, i noticed my battery draining at alarming rates and thought the battery was the issue till i realized how hot the phone was. A quick check of battery usage under settings showed that google play services was the culprit. Restarting the phone does nothing to resolve it. i've seen a few forum threads where disabling some google apps are adviced. i'm trying everything i can find online.
