Why ethernet option is grayed out in Samsung Galaxy tab 4 SM-T331 ?

I am using samsung galaxy tab 4 8.0 recently I tried to connect my tab using LAN cable to a router(via a USB 2.0 ethernet adapter) but unfortunately my tab is not able to detect any internet and also the ethernet option is grayed out. I am not using carrier specific/branded device. Any fix for this?

Welcome to the forums. Perhaps there is a defect in the adapter you have? How long have you had it?
