Did my phone really die? or is it the shop owner lack of experience

Hi there,so previously I asked why my gs5 was stuck at startup,and after some answers I got,I had to take it to the shop to fix it,today he told me that they tried and didn't work,in other words it's dead apparently.
but I never thought phones would die really because they are made of parts,and the parts with the problem,replace them,done!
can it really die or it's just because they didn't know how to fix it? (it's a random shop you can say so they don't have a degrees or nothing,I mean not professional)
anyway I'll take it to another shop but at least I wanna know,pls

The S5 is not an old phone and as long as it has not been damaged or abused I can't see why it should not be repairable. Did they say what they had tested?

My guess is they don't know how to fix it. Stuck on the startup screen has been common on S3/4/5 models, check out this link How To Fix Samsung Galaxy S5 Stuck On Android Logo – TechnoBezz and see if it can resolve your issue. If not contact your local carrier or an Authorized Samsung repair shop. Good luck.
