I plugged my phone into my laptop to upload photos onto the laptop. This worked. What happened next was every photo from my facebook account has now been downloaded onto my phone. It wont let me delete these. How can I do this?

Welcome to Android Central! Are you sure the actual Facebook photo files are saved to the phone, or are they actually in the cloud? One possibility is that you transferred the Facebook photos to your laptop, and if your laptop has the Google Photos uploader installed, those photos automatically uploaded to your Google Photos in the cloud. Your phone's Gallery app may be syncing with your Google Photos (usually shown as "Picasa" in the Gallery app), and showing you the thumbnails. You can't delete cloud photos using the Gallery app--you have to use the Google Photos app.
