    Welcome.

    Perhaps a previous owner rooted it. It ought to be possible to unroot it. Check online for how to do that for whatever device you have.

    Either it's rooted or it's running a custom ROM. In either case, you'll probably have to flash a stock ROM to be able to update it. But if you're going to the trouble, look for a stock Lollipop ROM for the particular phone on the forum for that model phone at XDA Forums. (If it's a Samsung, you can probably also get the ROM from SamMobile Firmwares (and use our [Samsung] How to flash Stock ROM via ODIN guide - it's more detailed than theirs).
