How am I meant to reset my HTC m8 if the battery won't hold charge to stay on long enough?

It keeps restarting itself every 5-10 seconds as soon as I place it on to recharge.

Welcome to Android Central! While it's powering on, press and hold the Power button for 10-15 seconds to see if that forces a shutdown. If the bootloop persists, there might be a problem with the Power button. Of course, the battery itself might be failing as well.
