Phone only a month old, screen got dimmer and dimmer then switched off. Cannot turn it back on. Took back to store as it is still under warranty and now they are telling me that the phone was dropped (it is in a protective case) and this has caused the defect. They are wanting $150 to fix it!! Am I being ripped off?

Welcome to Android Central! First, it sounds like the problem is with the screen, rather than the Power button. Any water exposure? That can cause screen problems like that. Second, if you got the phone new or refurbished, it should still be under warranty, so you should contact Samsung for warranty repair. But if there's evidence of physical damage (like dents, scuffs, cracks, etc.), you'll have a hard time proving that it wasn't dropped, in which case the warranty will be void.
