Project Fi locked

If you are committed to the idea of unlocked, no contract phones, make sure to avoid the financing for Project Fi. It is probably unsurprising, but it turns out Project Fi is basically the same as any carrier if you finance the phone, including locking it to the use of other sims, even while traveling. We ordered the Nexus 5X with Project Fi and made a last minute decision to take the financing since it was no interest over two years. They do not make it at all clear in the ordering process that the phone is different when you choose the financing option. The financing was not really a deciding factor, but now we have to fix a problem we didn't know we were getting into.
