Email attachments not downloading

When i log on to my email account via phone it does not let me download attacments in the email. Everytime i click on the download buttom, and error message will appear and reads "this item has not be downloaded"

You need to give more information for someone to help.
1. Is the problem account Gmail, Yahoo, a private domain or?
2. If you have more than one account, does the download fail on one account or all of them?
3. Does the phone download the email, just not the attachments?
4. What phone and email app are you using?
5. Does this happen on WiFi, mobile data or both?
