Backing up texts for phone transfer

A

AC Question

I'm (RELUCTANTLY!) upgrading from my wonderful Samsung Galaxy S to an S6 Edge. I'm so going to miss my keyboard :-(

Unfortunately, though, most of the software available to transfer data seems to be unusable on my old phone. I was able to move my Contacts by exporting them to a VCF on my old phone, then emailing them to myself, saving them on the new phone, then importing them.

I can't seem to find a way to transfer my old text messages, though.

Do you guys know of a way to either export my text messages in some way, or back them up to Gmail, or an app that would still work with the Galaxy S, or transfer them in any other way?

TIA!

Convert them all to Google contacts (see the Contacts part of Backing up an Android Device - backing up and restoring texts is in there too), and you'll never have to worry about them again - put a phone on that Google account and it'll sync your contacts.
