HTC A9 Can't set notification sound in default messaging App?

I'm using the default messaging app. I can go into settings and select the notification sound that I want to use, it plays, I hit apply and it always reverts back to the default sound.

I can pick any of the stock notification sounds and it works fine, but any custom sounds will not work. Any ideas?

Try installing a File Manager from the Play Store and manually moving the custom sound into your notification folder, does that work?

I have the same problem and they already are in my notification folder.
