I just bought an unlocked at&t Samsung Galaxy s5 (G900A). My carrier is T-mobile. I want to switch the ROM from the stock lollipop 5.0 (G900A) to the stock Kitkat 4.4.4 (G900T). Is this possible? or do I have to use Kitkat 4.4.4 (G900A).

Do I also need to change the firmware?

If so, do i change the firmware before I change the ROM, or after?

I'm very new to this, so patience will be appreciated and probably needed.

    Thanks in advance!

    Welcome to Android Central!

The ATT version of the S5 has a locked bootloader so you won't be able to flash a ROM on to it. If the phone hadn't been updated to 5.0 you would have been able to.
