When I am away from home I want to know the temperature in my house. Is there an instrument that measures the room temperature and relays that to my home internet connection and read on my Samsung S4?

Yes, there are a few different smart thermostats on the market. You'll have to check the manuals of popular wifi thermostats to ensure they report the ambient temperature to the mobile device. They all offer thermostat control from smart phones. http://www.smarthome.com/wifi-thermostat.html

Thanks, I am aware of this. However, I just wish it to just read and communicate the temperature over my wifi and the internet, no further action to be taken.
