I have some movies saved on my Nexus 6P locally which i was able to play with either the VLC or MX players before. However after the recent Marshmallow update a couple of weeks back, both these players can't see any of them. The VLC player says that 'no media files found, please transfer some files to your device or adjust your preferences' while the MX player says 'No videos found'

Can someone help with the fix to this issue if they have already experienced it. btw.. i can see that the videos are present in the phone itself and when i try to play directly from the folder location itself, i get the error

'VLC encountered an error with this media. Please try refreshing the media library'

Welcome to Android Central! Try deleting the video, then copying it back to the phone.

Try searching your root folder and SD card for any .nomedia file (you might have a lot).
If you find any, delete them.
    Open VLC and refresh.
