I'm going to change my Moto X 2014 for a Note 5, and wanted to know if Android works like iOs as far as transferring apps, contacts, etc? All my photos are backed up to Drive. As soon as I log into my Google account upon startup of the new phone, all the apps I've downloaded (and paid for) will show up right? What about downloaded songs in Play Music? Thanks.

The device will prompt you to install the apps associated with your account. If you want to start somewhat clean, you can select not to and then go into the Play Store and choose what apps you want installed from the "My Apps" list. What will NOT be backed up/restored will be any settings or game progress within those apps. Getting that restored relies on the developer including the ability to back the data up, and the old and new devices being on Marshmallow, using your Drive account with the latest version of the Drive app.
