    Hi,
Situation: Just received a refurb Nexus 5. It has Kitkat 4.4.2, build no: KOT49H and Baseband version: M8974A-1.0.25.0.23. As soon I turned on, I do see the message for update to Android 4.4.3.

Qustion: Do I need to do incremental updates to get to Lollipo or Marshmallow i.e: 4.4.3 to 4.4.4 to 5.0 to etc. etc. or can I just hop to say Lollipop 5.1 or Marsmallow 6.0? And what would be a best way to proceed?

Any help and your time is very appreciated.

Welcome to the forums. You should be able to flash whichever ROM you want. You will need to unlock the bootloader, and after that, you can use this video to help you get started:
