How do I unlock the screen while making or receiving calls?

The screen goes black instantly when I make a call or answer a call and nothing I do will bring the screen back on during the duration of the call so that I can either enter other numbers, change to speaker phone, or even end the call. How do I stop it from doing this? Trying to get my voice mail is awful. You have to be able to enter a pin number which cannot be done while the screen is locked. The power button used to lock and unlock the screen during calls but no longer has any effect. Yet the power button still works for all other features.

It sounds like the proximity sensor is not working right. I would contact the manufacturer for a warranty replacement.
