Is there a legal way to force 5.1 update?

I have a BLU Vivo Selfie running Android 5.0, and while it's a good phone, BLU isn't known for prompt software updates. Is there a legal way to update to 5.1 without having to wait for the OTA update?

Welcome to Android Central! Do you know if BLU has actually released an official 5.1 update? If not, then you just have to wait for them to release it (if they're even working on one).
